The Roosevelts at Campobello

We have learned a lot about this little place! It was a resort in the late 1800's. Wealthy families from New York and Boston would come for the summer to escape the heat. FDR's parents built a house here and he grew up summering on the island. Eventually he and Eleanor and their children did the same. There is a wonderful park dedicated to them. Several of the cottages, including the 34 room one belonging to the Roosevelts have been restored and are open to the public.

The classroom.

Another "cottage"

They do a program called Tea with Eleanor. They serve tea and cookies and tell the story of her life. It was today's history lesson, and a really good one. These ladies can tell a good story!

Sam liked the tea. Ali did not. They both loved the cookies!
